A short neighborhood guide

Wander before you plan.

We hand every guest a printed map at check-in — but most people don’t need it for long. Here’s how the team describes the three blocks around the hotel, in the order you’ll actually walk them.

South, toward the park

Half a block south sits Carlow Park, a quiet rectangle of old-growth maples that hosts the Saturday farmers’ market from April through October. On the park’s south edge, Osteria Ferro opens at five for handmade pasta, and the espresso bar on the corner — Rosso Caffè — pulls a shot our staff has opinions about. This is the side of the hotel you wander in the morning.

West, toward the theaters

Walk west one block and the street tilts gently uphill toward Carlow Repertory Theatre and The Civic Stage. Studio 412 runs independent and repertory film two doors down, and on Friday and Saturday nights the Linden Concert Hall programs chamber and small-ensemble jazz. Pre-show reservations at Casa Mara and Marlow & Vine fill quickly — call the concierge ahead.

North, toward the river and the hub

Two blocks north brings you to the central transit hub — light rail to the airport, regional rail up the valley, and the bus network that connects the rest of the city. From here it’s another short walk to the Willamette River waterfront and the Saturday market along the esplanade. Direct-book guests receive a $15 nightly transit credit to use on this network.

East, toward the convention center

Four minutes east and you’re at the Portland Convention Center. Attendees who stay with us learn the route quickly: out the front door, right on Carlow, left on 4th, and you’re at the lobby doors. No rideshare surge, no parking validation, no weather gamble — just a quiet, predictable walk in the morning and again at the end of the day.

Parking, charging, transit

Three practical questions, answered up front.

Urban driving raises questions we’d rather answer here than at the door. Here’s the full picture for guests arriving with a car — or choosing not to.
